TRAVEL PIECES
In 2025 I found the confidence to use my sketchbook whilst out and about in public. In turn this led to me drawing places I'd not normally think of and occasionally drawing the imperfections I saw in front of me such as seafront shops, dilapidated pubs or old hotels. I now look forward to visiting places in a way I would not have done before knowing that all I need is a book and a couple of pens and from there I can produce art that I'm proud to display in my own home.
In 2025 I filled half a sketchbook with random sights and buildings in Great Yarmouth despite the fact that me and my family only visited for a week. Whilst the children sat eating an ice cream I'd doddle the hotel behind them or as they built sandcastles I'd paint the sea and cliff faces whcih they played in front of.
A few months later I'd start to add to the book with a somewhat different backdrop of a city break in Barcelona before adding Yrok musings to my book in December 2025.
I wonder whether I should revisit old photos from trips to Berlin, Vienna, Cologne and Prague or wait until I venture back to those cities in order to draw in person, in amongst the streets, buildings and colour.
